The Academy Awards ke-94 akhirnya rampung diselenggarakan pada 28 Maret (Minggu malam waktu setempat) di Dolby Theatre, Hollywood. Ketika selama beberapa bulan belakangan media menjagokan “The Power of the Dog” atau “Belfast”, “CODA” justru keluar sebagai pemenang Best Picture yang mengejutkan.
Disutradarai oleh Sian Heder, film tersebut bercerita tentang seorang remaja yang ingin menjadi penyanyi, meski semua anggota keluarga bisu dan tuli. “CODA” akhirnya mengalahkan “The Power of the Dog” yang sebelumnya unggul sebagai film terbaik dalam Golden Globe, BAFTA, dan Critics’ Choice Award.
Setelah penantian yang cukup lama, Will Smith akhirnya berhasil membawa pulang penghargaan Best Actor. Dengan berlinang air mata, Will Smith menerima penghargaan tersebut sambil meminta maaf karena telah menampar Chris Rock di panggung Oscar 2022.
